Gabriel comes from a dance and theater background, and started tap dancing when he was 4 years old. After acting in numerous regional plays and musicals, Gabriel joined the cast of the national tour of Billy Elliot in the role of Michael, under acclaimed director Stephen Daldry. In August of 2010 he was moved to the Broadway Production. Around this time Gabriel also began acting in films, and made his feature film debut as part as Skotak, one of the khaki scouts, in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. Gabriel has a few more feature film roles scheduled for upcoming release, including A Little Game (dir. Evan Oppenheimer), The Immigrant (dir. James Gray), and The Grand Budapest Hotel (reuniting Gabriel with director Wes Anderson).
